Dr. Zachary H. Ricker is board certified in small animal surgery by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. He is a graduate of the OSU College of Veterinary Medicine where he received the American College of Veterinary Surgeons Student Surgery Award and the Phizer Clinical Proficiency Award. After his time at OSU, Dr. Ricker completed a one year internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at Texas A&M University. He returned to Oklahoma State University for a 3 year surgery residency where he received extensive training in orthopedic, soft tissue, cardiothoracic, oncologic and neurosurgery. His research on the biomechanical security of finger-trapped catheters was published in the the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association in 2015. Dr. Ricker’s wife, Rachel, is a pastor with Lifechurch.tv and they have one dog, a pit bull named “Piper”. When Dr. Ricker is not tending to the needs of your companions, he enjoys reading, spending time with friends and family, exploring Christianity, and getting outdoors as much as possible.
After graduating from the Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Hodges went on to complete a one year internship in Albuquerque, NM in Small Animal Emergency Medicine and Surgery, followed by a one year clerkship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at Michigan Veterinary Specialists. He then completed a 3 year residency program at Michigan Veterinary Specialists in Small Animal Internal Medicine. Dr. Hodges is one of only three board-certified small animal internal medicine specialists in private practice in the state of Oklahoma. Dr. Hodges and his wife Sonya have two boys (Bryce and Kade), two Labrador Retrievers (Remington and Bailey) and their newest edition (Oscar) a Jack Russell Terrier. When not tending to man’s best friend, Dr. Hodges enjoys spending time with his boys- fishing, swimming, cooking out, and camping.
Chris Johnson was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma and attended The University of Oklahoma where he earned an undergraduate degree in Zoology-Biomedical Sciences. Like his two counterparts, Dr. Johnson then furthered his education at the Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 2009. Following veterinary school he completed a rotating medical and surgical internship with the San Francisco Veterinary Specialists. Dr. Johnson has taken a special interest in trauma cases, endocrine emergencies, soft tissue surgery, cytology, and pain management. Chris and his wife Chauntay have a girl named Georgia Grace. In addition to sharing his home with his wife and daughter, Chris has made room for Oscar and Frankie, his two Boston Terriers, a Golden Retriever named Sierra, and Guster, the lone cat. When Dr. Johnson is not meticulously caring for your furry friends, he enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, fishing, mountain biking, and any other activity that lures him outdoors.
Unlike her colleagues Dr. Cronin was born and raised in upstate NY. She (and her Connemara pony “P.J.”) attended Taylor University in Upland, IN where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biology. After graduating from Atlantic Veterinary College in Prince Edward Island Canada in 2005, Dr. Cronin went on to complete a one year equine internship in northern California, followed by a one year internship in Diagnostic Imaging at Oklahoma State University. She also spent a year at The University of Georgia in Athens, GA receiving special training in diagnostic imaging. Dr. Cronin spent two years practicing in general practice before joining OVS an emergency clinician. She enjoys the challenges of emergency medicine and is especially interested in diagnostic imaging and tending to critical patients. She is currently doing a Radiology Residency at Michigan State. Dr. Cronin and her husband David have two canine children (Goodman and Jada), a chinchilla, a Thoroughbred gelding and a Connemara pony. When not tending to your furry kiddos, Dr. Cronin’s passions include spending time with her husband, photography, relaxing with a good book or worship music, horseback riding and other outdoor activities.
Katherine Coldwell DVM is a native Oklahoman, with a Bachelor of Science from Kansas State University and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Oklahoma State University in 2002. After eight years in family veterinary practice in Tulsa, she spent a year of formal training in emergency and critical care medicine at the Animal Emergency Center in Glendale, Wisconsin before returning to Oklahoma and joining Oklahoma Veterinary Specialists on the emergency service. She and her husband, also a veterinarian, live on a hobby farm outside of Tulsa. She enjoys training her Clydesdales and traveling.
Dr. Schultz is a 2008 graduate of Oklahoma State’s College of Veterinary Medicine. Following veterinary school, she remained at OSU to complete a one year rotating internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery. She joined the OVS team in 2009 as an emergency doctor before being accepted into an ACVS residency program. 2014 marked the end of Dr. Schultz’s 3 year surgical residency at VCA Mission Animal Referral and Emergency Center (previously Mission MedVet) in Mission, KS. Her research evaluating tibial plateau leveling osteotomy is currently in the final stages of the peer review process. She will sit for the American College of Veterinary Surgeons Exam in 2016. In her spare time, Dr. Schultz enjoys reading, spending time with family, and traveling. OVS is excited to welcome Dr. Schultz back to the practice and our veterinary community. She will continue to be an asset to the OVS team, her patients, and the referral community.
Oklahoma Veterinary Specialists is proud to welcome Dr. Derek Nestor, a board certified Internal Medicine Specialist, to our team. Dr. Nestor was born and raised in a small town in Iowa. He earned his DVM from Iowa State University in 1999. Following graduation, he spent two years in general practice before completing an internship at the University of Illinois. He completed his residency in Small Animal Internal Medicine at Michigan State University and became board certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal medicine in 2005. Dr. Nestor has worked as an Internist at referral centers in Milwaukee, Des Moines and Louisville. Dr. Nestor and his wife, Heidi, have two sons (Dawson and Davis). In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family, watching sporting events, golfing and volunteering at church. Dr Nestor enjoys all areas of Internal Medicine and he sees referral appointments Monday through Thursday at OVS.
After graduating from Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2007, Dr. Musgrove spent six years in Tulsa honing her skills as a Primary Care Veterinarian. She and her family then relocated to Denver for two years. In between hiking and skiiing adventures, Dr. Musgrove developed a love for emergency medicine. While in Colorado, Dr. Musgrove and her husband, Bobby, decided they’d like to raise their two kids closer to family. The Musgroves headed back to Tulsa in late September, and Dr. Musgrove started with OVS in early October. When she’s not saving lives in the ICU, Dr. Musgrove unwinds with her family and her pets which include two senior Yorkshire Terriers, a sassy housecat, and a Lionhead bunny. You might also find her dancing, cooking at home, sewing, or riding horses in her down time.
Suzanne Caruso was born and raised in Massachusetts. After graduating from Cornell University with a B.S. in Animal Science, she moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma to attend veterinary school at Oklahoma State University. Prior to attending veterinary school, Dr. Caruso worked in equine research studying the healing potential of omeprazole for equine gastric ulcers. Gastrogard became an FDA approved drug in 1999 as Dr. Caruso was graduating with her D.V.M. Dr. Caruso never left Oklahoma and has resided in Tulsa since graduation. After 15 years in general practice and developing a love for challenging major medical cases, Dr. Caruso decided to join the staff at Oklahoma Veterinary Specialists. Dr. Caruso has two daughters, Olivia and Eliana, and when she is not at OVS, she can be found enjoying life’s adventures with these two by her side. Her family also includes three dogs – Toro, Blanca and Sophie. She has run six marathons and one 50K, as well as numerous half marathons. Her other hobbies include reading and playing outdoors. Dr. Corynn Johnson is a Tulsa native who graduated from Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Johnson first starting working at OVS in 2008 as an Emergency veterinary assistant before heading to veterinary school. After graduation, she spent a year at San Francisco Veterinary Specialists completing a rotating internship in Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Surgery, and Neurology. Following her internship, Dr. Johnson moved back to Tulsa to accept a position as an Emergency veterinarian at OVS in 2014. Dr Johnson loves all aspects of Emergency Medicine, but is especially interested in trauma cases, heatstroke emergencies, diagnostic imaging, anesthesia in critical patients, and providing excellent pain management. Dr. Johnson particularly enjoys seeing Dachshund patients and has her own 7 year old Dachshund at home named Piper. When Dr. Johnson isn’t busy caring for your four-legged family members, she spends her time hiking with Piper, tending her multiple aquariums, gardening, and riding hunter/jumper horses.
Dr. Jason Duell is residency trained in small animal surgery. He is a graduate of the OSU College of Veterinary Medicine where he received the Dean Clarence H. McElroy Award – the highest honor awarded to a veterinary student. After his time at OSU, Dr. Duell completed a one year internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at Texas A&M University. He returned to Oklahoma State University for a 3 year surgery residency where he received extensive training in orthopedic, soft tissue, cardiothoracic, oncologic and neurosurgery. His research on the differences in small intestinal anastomosis techniques was published in Veterinary Surgery journal in 2016. Dr. Duell will sit for the American College of Veterinary Surgeons Exam in 2017. Dr. Duell’s wife, Dana, is a dental hygienist and they have 2 dogs, Chandler and Charlie. When Dr. Duell is not tending to the surgical needs of your pet, he enjoys serving in his church, renovating his “new” 1936 model home with his wife and spending time outdoors.
